In a few years, a Russian spiritual and cultural center may appear next to the Invalides in Paris. Russia won the competition for the purchase of a plot of land with a complex of buildings, pushing aside Saudi Arabia and Canada, whose embassies also participated in the auction. Of the three buildings put up for sale, only one is likely to be demolished. An Orthodox cathedral will be built in its place, and a seminary will be located in one of the buildings. The rights to the property will remain with the state, but the site will be transferred for free use to the church. The cost of land in this area is one of the highest in the city, so it can be considered lucky if the purchase costs 50 million euros. All negotiations on behalf of the Russian Federation were conducted by the Presidential Administration. The Kremlin attaches great importance to the “prestige” of the project.

The Catholic monastery complex Tichelkerk, purchased four years ago in Amsterdam (for only 1.5 million euros, we note), also had special hopes in terms of spirituality and strengthening the position of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad, but who now knows anything about this Tichelkerk?
