The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch called the bill on public organizations approved yesterday by the Federation Council “catastrophic” for the protection of human rights in Russia. Amendments to the law do not cancel the extremely negative impact that it will have on Russian human rights organizations, according to a press release posted on the organization’s website. HRW called on the heads of the G8 to make the draconian bill a central issue for discussion at upcoming meetings and summits.
