I'll overtake and then catch up

An unknown person from a car with a flashing light attacked Novaya Gazeta correspondent Evgeny Starshov. As the journalist writes on the publication’s blog, the incident took place on the Moscow Ring Road. The unknown person in a Lexus car with a flashing light, according to Starshov, was driving “without the special signal turned on, but was actively dispersing people with his headlights.” At the same time, the journalist did not hear the sounding signal warning drivers (“quacks,” as Starshov writes). The Lexus driver managed to pass Starshov’s car on the left, after which the journalist, driving after him, turned on the video recording. The video was also posted on the Novaya blog. The Lexus drove calmly for some time, but then turned on the hazard lights and stopped, after which the driver got out of the car, approached Starshov’s car and began to rudely demand that he delete the video recording (as he called it, the photograph). Starshov refused and asked: “Who are you?” This is where the recording ends, as the journalist began calling the police from the phone he was using to film. He says that he tried to leave, but the Lexus driver caught up with him in a car, “then provoked an accident, cut him off, and then blocked the path of my car with the right side.” Getting out of the car, the unknown person began to threaten the journalist, and when he called the police and began to dictate the number and make of the offender’s car, the owner of the flashing light began to strike Starshov’s car with his hands and feet. A somewhat comical detail: an unknown person tore a blue bucket from Starshov’s car and took it for himself, after which he drove away.

The journalist wrote a statement to the police department, where Starshov accompanied by the arriving officers, but the police officers said that they did not see the elements of a crime in the actions of his offender, so the initiation of a criminal case would most likely be refused.
