Ukraine is puzzling

The Washington Post published an article by Anders Åslund, a well-known specialist in socialist and transitional economies. He directly calls the policies of Ukrainian Prime Minister Tymoshenko socialist and populist. The expert calls the Cabinet's plans for deprivatization "dark." Oslund also writes that Ukrainian oligarchs close to power are selling off their businesses and preparing to leave the country. Yushchenko, it seems, must either fire Tymoshenko or lose his authority as a democrat and market leader.
