On March 5, the Moscow Department of Education will host a joint meeting of the Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechesis and the Moscow Department of Education, dedicated to the issues of teaching the ORKSE course in capital schools, reports the Synodal Information Department. The meeting will discuss the training and certification of teachers, ensuring freedom of choice of module (the Patriarchate believes that such low rates of choice for the module “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture” in Moscow are the result of pressure from the school administration, which is “more convenient” to find one or two teachers for the whole class, and not six), expanding the teaching of the subject area of ​​ORKSE by level and year of secondary school.

On behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church, the event will be attended by the Chairman of the Department of Religious Education and Catechesis of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk Mercury, managers of the vicariates of the city of Moscow, heads of the secretariats of the vicariates, as well as those responsible for teaching the defense education system. From the state education system, the meeting should be attended by the head of the Moscow Department of Education, Isaac Kalina, heads of district education departments and those responsible for teaching ORKSE in the Department and administrative districts. Based on the results of the meeting, it is planned to develop practical recommendations for the interaction of secular and church educational structures to ensure high-quality teaching of the subject “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture.” This joint meeting is a preparatory event for the Citywide Conference of Teachers “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture,” which is planned to be held on April 16, 2013 in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
