The President decided to take up the protracted discussion of amendments to the law on military service and instructed the government to quickly finalize the law regarding the reduction of military service and deferments in conscription. The bill provides for the revision and abolition of a number of grounds for granting deferments from conscription and the exemption of students who have studied at military departments and graduated from a university. Those who are nevertheless called up for service will serve for one, and not two years, as now. But this decision will come into force only in January 2008.
