Netizens compared clashes in Ukraine with games and films

Users of social networks compared the fierce street battles between the opposition and the Ukrainian authorities with computer games and films.

Photos of clashes in the center of Kyiv began appearing on social networks on January 20. Images of crowds of people fighting against the backdrop of fires and columns of black smoke rising from them evoked associations among many with post-apocalyptic films and computer games.

Edited versions of these photos immediately began to appear online. First of all, street fighting was compared to Star Wars.

Batman was added to the work of Kiev photographer Den Didenko .

Vitali Klitschko, doused with a mixture from a fire extinguisher, was depicted as the Joker.

In connection with the color of the hat of one of the protesters, the famous Beeline slogan was also remembered.

And the shields of the Berkut special forces were replaced with Samsung smartphones.

The most numerous were pictures inspired by games. For example, a photograph of burnt-out buses was turned into a screenshot of the Ukrainian series of games “STALKER,” which consists almost entirely of similar landscapes.

A group photo of Berkut fighters was compared to the multiplayer shooter Counter-Strike.

The improvised means used by the opposition fighters, including the catapult that instantly became a meme, reminded many of the Total War games, of which sieges of fortresses are an important part.

The unusual clothing of the resistance was ridiculed, compared to the classes in a role-playing game.

A photo montage of four similar comparisons, which also included the Assassin's Creed series, the shooter Battlefield 4 and the ambitious multiplayer project The Division from Ubisoft, also gained great popularity.

Game achievements were invented especially for the protesters.

As usual, we haven’t forgotten about Angry Birds.

However, some photographs from scenes of events did not require processing to gain popularity.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainians themselves have no time for jokes.
