Medicines containing narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances are allowed to be imported into Russia

Unregistered drugs will be available only on doctor's orders.

In Russia, on March 1, a law came into force allowing the import of unregistered medicines. Vladimir Putin signed the document at the end of December 2019.

Medicines can be imported to treat specific patients. The decision on this will be made by the medical commission. One of the grounds for procurement is the lack of effect from taking a registered medicine or the impossibility of using it.

The list of drugs allowed for import includes diazepam, midazolam, clobazam, lorazepam and phenobarbital.

In March, Russia plans to complete the registration of freesium. It acts as a tranquilizer that stops epileptic seizures. By the end of 2020, the Moscow Endocrine Plant will begin production of diazepam and midazolam.

The law was adopted after several cases of criminal prosecution of Russians who ordered prohibited drugs abroad to treat their children.

In August 2019, mothers of terminally ill children wrote an open letter to Putin about the cases for illegal drugs. They asked the president to “break this vicious circle and find a constructive solution” in which anti-epileptic drugs could be used in Russia.
