The court on Tuesday changed the measure of restraint to officers of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Evgeny Khudyakov and Sergey Arakcheev, who are accused of killing civilians of Chechnya. According to Interfax with reference to the cassation ruling of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of Russia, they were released from custody for a recognizance not to leave. The definition was announced in the North Caucasus District Military Court.
The cassation ruling noted that the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court does not see the significant grounds for leaving Khudyakov and Arakcheev in custody. After the announcement of the document, the defendants were released from custody in the courtroom.
The defendants were arrested in December 2006. Then the North Caucasus District Military Court agreed with the state prosecution that they put pressure on witnesses.
According to the investigation, the reconnaissance group under the command of Khudyakov and Arakcheev in January 2003 in Grozny stopped the KAMAZ car, in which three inhabitants of the village of Laha Waranda rode. According to the investigation, Khudyakov led them out of the truck, ordered them to go to the ground and killed with shots in the head. Then, to conceal the evidence, the scouts pushed the truck with bodies on the side of the road, doused with gasoline and set fire. The passports of the dead were destroyed.
