The Korean "island" was praised in advance as a beautiful, but shocking film. Those who managed to go to the Korean militant “have nowhere to hide” approximately imagined such a situation: a lot of carefully built personnel, and at the same time someone beats someone long and disgustingly. It pours rain, pours blood.
So it turned out - there is no fight, but there are plenty of blood. However, despite the somewhat extremely unpleasant - but what is there, simply unbearable - scenes, the "island" can be called a lyrical comedy, referring, of course, the humor of the eastern, specific, with which our viewer is most familiar with the works of Takoeshi Kitano.
And here is the plot: a sweet, but a wild girl, a sort of witch, owns a modest, but pleasant business - contains several floating houses, which she passes to everyone for a small fee. Basically, couples come there, catch fish and have laid -back sex, however, some of the detached type live in these houses (most similar to tents) for a long time. In one of this, our witch fluttered without memory.
The plot is not here as such: either the guy swims ashore, then she is to the guy. They sit, spend fish. Silent. Sparkle with their eyes. Look out the window. A boat of policemen looms in the window who sailed to check the documents of those living in the houses; A strange inspection, but he brings his fruits - one of the hermits is wanted. Event!
All dialogues of the film would fit on the text page. The guy makes a bicycle and gallows from the wire and is tormented by an unsatisfied desire, which, if possible, satisfies it, either with a gloomy mistress of the houses, then from a prostitute who has arrived to call, who also immediately falls in love with him, here is a love triangle.
At this point, the viewer somehow relaxes - on the screen there are entirely meditative pictures, rain, lake, boats, waves on the water, sad and ever -silent heroes - and immediately gets on the horns: after being silent, the guy swallows a ligament of fishing hooks and begins to pull it with the inside. Then the girl takes out these hooks from him (tweezers), inserts a spacer into her mouth so that he does not suffer, and then sex (almost necrophilic - the guy on the last gasp; however, he survived, even the doctors did not need). And when the villain tries to leave her and sail away in a boat into a happy distance, then she takes the same ligament and plants herself in a causal place, but pulls, pulls. Well, you have to return to the guy and pull out this muck back.
The stuffed hall of the movie House reacted to the director’s tricks knowingly - only a few people took off. The rest looked nothing, they didn’t take their eyes off, they even giggled regularly - every time they took up the fishing rod on the screen, someone was already starting to grunt fun, waiting for something like that (and, as a rule, was not mistaken - they pulled out the corpse and the fugitive was caught by the hook by the palm of his hand). However, after shocking scenes, truly hilarious personnel followed, where a beloved fades his beloved sore spot with a fan (and vice versa, respectively).
All the familiar components of modern Asian cinema - beauty and violence - are present here, but it is quite difficult to evaluate whether the film "Island" is good. The eastern sign system, by definition, seems strange, alien, incomprehensible to us; The fact that the Western viewer seems funny (say, the eternal frostbite of the heroes) will perceive the Japanese for granted; Shocking episodes probably cause a completely different reaction in the cinema there. (One of the most popular Japanese full -length cartoons "Mononoke Hime" at the American box office received the PG -13 rating (that is, to children up to thirteen - only with parents) because the heroes are torn off - in the Japanese rental he gathered a giant cash desk, and above all at the expense of children. Japanese children and Japanese parents. Not at all embarrassed).
The film seemed boring to me - if there weren’t these unfortunate hooks, and there would be nothing to talk about; The audience reacted to the "island" sympathetically - most of the audience, apparently, was not familiar with the fashionable Asian cinema, because the most common comment was: "At least original; unusual humor, not like a film."
