45% of Russians surveyed in March by sociologists from the Yuri Levada Analytical Center are ready to support changes to the Russian Constitution that would allow Vladimir Putin to serve as president for more than two terms. Only 24% of Russians are categorically against it. And we are still surprised: courts turn into fiction, police officers beat children, almost every day someone is killed or beaten “on ethnic grounds.” Why be surprised, one might ask, if we are so unanimously and slavishly ready to support the government, no matter what it does.
