Radical artist Alexander Volodarsky was detained on November 2 in Ukraine for simulating sexual intercourse - this was a protest in Kyiv near the walls of the Verkhovna Rada in connection with the adoption of the Law on the Protection of Public Morality and the actions of the National Commission on Public Morality. Volodarsky himself and an unknown girl took part in the action. Parishioners of a nearby “field church” tried to provoke a fight with the journalists watching the action, after which Volodarsky was sent to the Pechersk district police department and imprisoned in a pre-trial detention center, in a cell with criminals.
The Law on the Protection of Public Morals prohibits, in particular, the production and distribution of products that “promote ignorance, disrespect for parents,” and “promote drug addiction, substance abuse, alcoholism, smoking and other bad habits.” The National Commission on Public Morals calls for control over the presence of children on the Internet, condemns homosexuality, demands a ban on the work of a number of artists, the broadcast of the series “Happy Together,” and the storage of erotic videos at home.
