John Eshbury was born in 1927 in Rochester, New York, graduated from Harvard University, also studied at the New York and Colombian universities.
The author of more than twenty poetic gatherings, a laureate of almost all American literary awards, including the National Book Prize, the National Circle of Book critics and medals of Robert Frost. In 1976, the poet received the Pulitzer Prize for the collection "Self -portrait in a convex mirror."
John Eshbury also translated the works of foreign poets, acted as a literary critic, taught literature in various US colleges.
Since 1980, John Eshbury has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Literature, in 1988-1999-the chancellor of the American Poetic Academy, in 2001-2003-a poet-laureate of New York.
