The DOC theater, renting a small basement in Trekhprudnaya Lane, received a notification from the city property department on the termination of the lease unilaterally.
The lease term ends in December. For 12 years, he was calmly renegotted, since the theater is the tenant is neat, there were never problems with payment. But this time the theater warned that there would be no extension. The media request about the reason in the department replied that the case is the “illegal redevelopment of part of the premises without coordination with the owner”, which is a warning in the lease agreement.
What does it mean?
There is an opinion, and most supporters of the theater adhere to it, that the issue of redevelopment is only an excuse, and the real reason is in the too independent and opposition activity of the theater, in the repertoire of which there are many performances about current events. It is impossible to crush the theater itself - this is a non -state institution. The DOC theater is a private company, and does what it considers necessary and interesting. Another thing is that in recent years it has become very popular, and state cultural bodies, both federal and Moscow, provided him with support. For example, at the initiative of the Moscow authorities, the theater recently transferred a part of the basement, which was previously occupied by some office, to preferential lease. The office moved out, the theater repaired the room, receiving a rehearsal hall. He carefully paid for the whole theater. But since the firefighters demanded the second entrance, the theater had to turn one of the windows at the door, which was at the ground level. This restructuring, not agreed with the Department, and caused the termination of the lease.
In addition, the residents of the house naturally protested from time to time - they did not like that people gathered near the theater, that is, people gather under their windows. Residents wrote letters, complaints, and the theater tried to fulfill all the requirements in response - not to make noise, not to find, not to smoke.
Of course, the room is not perfect for theatrical business, but for 12 years there were no special problems, and those that appeared, managed to solve. Now, apparently, something has changed. The question is that.
It can be assumed that some bureaucratic procedures have changed and the theater accidentally fell by the victim. But for some reason no one believes in this.
Than the heart will calm down
There is a good scenario. The Department of Culture, which is in the course of events, will explain to the Department of Urban Property, that this theater is very important for the city, that it needs to assist, and then the theater is agreed by the redevelopment, and the lease will be signed. There is another option - providing the city with a theater of another room, about the same or better quality.
There is a bad option. If it is not a bureaucratic basis, but in ideological persecution, then the city authorities will not intervene, they will not resume the rent, they will refuse to help. The fact is that the leaders of the DOC theater received all preferences when both in the Moscow Department of Culture and the Ministry of Culture in the responsible posts were people who shared the credo of the theater. Now they are gone. And moreover, there are fears that the main decisions are now being made by those who have long been considering the DOC theater the heresy of heresy and the threat to the “Russian world”.
The theater, as already mentioned, is private, so it will continue to live. Its leader Elena Gremin has already reported a desire to continue to work first, and you can play performances anywhere, "even in the garage." Of course, this will be more difficult, because a lot of labor and funds were invested in the premises on a three-breed for 12 years, once it was a smelly, cramped basement, actors and playwrights built, repaired, painted, purchased equipment with their own hands, and now, when everything has finally became cozy, convenient and beautiful, they took the house from them.
What is the DOC theater
A group of young playwrights twelve years ago rented a basement at their own expense to make performances about modern life, put new plays, compose and try. Over the years, one might say, a new theatrical direction has appeared, dozens of new theater authors, young filmmakers, and scriptwriters have been brought up the theater. The theater’s performances have repeatedly won the most prestigious competitions. No one specifically formulated the civil position of the theater, but since from the very beginning he was focused on a special, very honest and attentive attitude to reality, by ear to the truth of life, sooner or later a protest attitude towards what was happening became more distinct.
There were performances in the “Magnitsky case”, about the poet Nechaev, sitting under house arrest in Belarus, the political farce “Berlusputin”, documentaries about the war in Chechnya, about the homeless people in Russia, about the AIDS in Norilsk, historical performances about the fall of Constantinople and the correspondence between Tolstoy and Stolypin. This is an open scene - everyone can offer their idea, and if it likes it, they will help him to put a performance, and if he turns out to be interesting, he will be included in the repertoire. Doc theater hosts dramatic festivals, film screenings, discussions and discussions. This is a living and useful place, where it is more alive than many of those that not only supports, but also finances, promotes and pester the Moscow and federal authorities. If oxygen blocks power the DOC theater, it means that it is very bad. But we have no better.
