Aslan Cherkesov, found guilty of murdering Spartak fan Yegor Sviridov, was sentenced by the Moscow City Court to 20 years in a maximum security colony. The prosecutor's office demanded that he be sentenced to 23 years. Cherkesov’s accomplices, who took part in the fight in which Sviridov died, received from five to ten years in prison. They were accused of hooliganism and causing harm to health. Lawyers for the accused intend to appeal the verdict to the Supreme Court.

Previously, the jury found Cherkesov guilty and not deserving of leniency.

Let us recall that the murder of Sviridov became the reason for unrest among football fans and nationalists, which resulted in riots on Manezhnaya Square on December 11 last year. Formally, the riot participants were outraged that after the murder, one Cherkesov was detained, and the rest of the participants in the fight were released. Of course, an important reason for concern was the fact that all the suspects were from the North Caucasus.
