Once in ancient Greece, the teacher was a slave who escorted the boy to school and back. In the modern world, the role of the teacher, it would seem, should change significantly: the teacher is the direct guide of the student into the world of knowledge. But is it so in today's post -Soviet reality?
To begin with, with all relativity, there is a conditional division of school workers into teachers and teachers. Of course, these are mainly people who are engaged in the same thing. True, in the word "teacher" something is heard completely school, while in the "teacher" there is an echo from the title letter. But the separation of these concepts is important from the point of view of accents that are made when we are talking about pedagogical activity or a teacher's profession.
In teaching, if you do not understand it vulgar, there is still some irrationality, chaos of passions. But pedagogy, on the contrary, is rational and ordered. It turns out that, relatively speaking, both teachers and teachers communicate with children, that is, prototypes, as it were, two elements at once.
On the one hand, these are bright choleraiks and neurotics who are not able to cope with the emotions overwhelming them, idealists, preachers, sometimes devouring their flock, and sometimes sacrificing themselves. On the other hand, smart and not very, unimportant, but beneficial aunts and uncles, causing either gratitude, then indifference, or irritation.
Teachers are in good faith work and soberly evaluate their work based on the results. Teachers are experiencing throughout the process of communicating with children. Teachers, like bright comets, are fascinating, but also portends danger.
The teacher (in this sense) the path is the lot of the few. The teacher’s case has much more intuition and improvisation than crafts and technologies. There are few good teachers by definition. They rarely advertise their services: “I teach courage”, or “I teach the art of being grateful”, or “I share kindness, I am respected, I offer care”. But even less often, who does without teacher's aid.

On the first day in the new school, everything went fine, as usual: solemnly, fussily, pointless. I spent a half-smitheated lesson, handed over the head teacher, received a schedule from him for a couple of the next days and went home.
I went out onto the porch of the school building. And stopped. What did I think about then?
The fact is that in my class a second -year or even the third year was to study in my class. The legendary incorrigible personality. Sympathetic teachers advised to systematically celebrate his gaps in the journal, to submit memos on time and not to worry: for two years now he had not gone to anyone.
Not to worry just part of my plans. The old school took a lot of moral forces. Therefore, today I did not pay any attention to the fact that the inveterate truant is not in the lessons. Filling out the magazine, noted the absent and went home. And stopped on the porch ...
"Go home or to him?" - That's what I thought about. The address was remembered somehow well the first time. “But you can call. And you can not take it in mind at all. As agreed. So why am I standing here? "
And I went ... on September 1. After lessons. To his house.
The problem of professionalism in pedagogy as such has never been set. It was believed that they go to teachers by vocation. They started talking about professionalism only recently.
For most, it is obvious: if in the profession, it means a professional. Without special education-a lover-lover. Indeed, in translation from the Latin “amateur” there is an amateur ... And in the mass consciousness this is a person outside the profession, with superficial knowledge, for which work is something like a hobby.
Bulat Okudzhava called his novel "The Journey of Amaterators." Is it because in the strict sense this is a love story of two people who do not want to admit in the world nothing but their feelings - naive and touching?
The same Okudzhava, answering the question of a tenth grader from my class at one time, why, having worked for six years, he left school, replied that he loved Russian literature, loved to teach her, but did not love the teacher’s ... by the way, the student who asked Okudzhava entered the pedagogical institute in the same year and fled from him a couple of years with curses. Okudzhava did not have enough love for the profession, the young man was hypnotized by love for his teacher, and when the spells were sleeping, he did not find his own calling.
The current professional boasts that he has a “call”, and skill (technique), and skill (experience). True, over the years, the "call" is weakening, and the technique and skill are being improved. There is a transformation of a person living in a profession into a professional.
It is unlikely that we can talk about a professional teacher at the age of 25 (not a broker). But is it worth it to rejoice at the birth of a tired elderly professional working on autopilot?
Faust taught Wagner that "without a soul and thoughts of living ways from heart to heart." At the same time, Faust, in the apt expression of Herman Gesse, is “a classic example of a brilliant amateurry ... and his tragedy.”
“That's a solution,” as another classic hero would exclaim. In pedagogy, these two concepts, a professional and amateur, are firmly connected, and one inseparably from the other. It is worth violating the balance - disaster.
The root of the discrepancies between professionals and amateurs is not how to relate to a profession or how to work. The main thing is for what purpose. The amateur often does not set any tasks at all, for him the process is more important. He works for super -task: for example, to grow high moral people. The amateur is most often not adequate to his desires. Therefore, it suffers more. His constant reflection is directed inside himself. It is the amateur who is belligerent and aggressive, thinks that he protects children and ideals, in fact herself - from self -destruction. The basis of amateurism is love. But love for children often becomes only a reflection of their own pride.
The professional played out in childishness, learned to manage his emotions, and is not shy about the black non -romantic work. He is ready to serve children, receive money for this work and does not see his cross and his fate in it. He tries to do better, earn more. A professional covers the whole sphere of pedagogical activity: he is a teacher, subject, organizer, manager. For him, the main thing is to satisfy a specific educational and educational request, choose a methodology and technically correctly execute. He does not feed the illusions, deprived of messianic troubles. Does a specific job and bears a specific responsibility for the result.
But at the same time, the amateur in practice may better get communication with children than the pros. After all, the area of human relations is irrational and is not amenable to cold calculation with an accurate dosage of the right amount of emotions.
A professional is usually a teacher, a training person who transfers specific knowledge using various means and techniques. The amateur marks the teacher.
A professional individualizes the pedagogical process as necessary (tactically), the amateur - by need (strategically).
Amateurism is a special fuel of internal combustion. You won’t go far without him. But we need rails, strict schedule, regular stops. Who needs a train racing to nowhere?
An ideal portrait: a teacher with experience who has learned to control himself, who got rid of the ailment of “collecting” children. He is able to clearly understand the tasks and select an individual technique. He did not lose love for the profession, retained inner fire (the one that shines, warms, but does not burn).
It turns out the ideal image of a professional amateur who feels and calculates, loves and does not go crazy, believes and doubts. You can only strive for it. But without it, in many ways, a conditional dispute about amateurs and professionals becomes ugly.
Pure amateurism is irresponsible love, satisfying only their desires. But pure professionalism in pedagogy does not work: human relations, into which the teacher and student enter, provide for a comfortable emotional background; The solution of educational and educational problems is often possible only through the personality of the teacher, through the attitude to him. And the “machine” technical inclusion of feelings “if necessary” is impossible.
The teacher, who worked at the school for ten years, complained in a conversation with me that he could not return to his favorite class, where he was a class teacher, and two years ago he transferred him from elementary school to “big”. “The wife will drive out of the house - after all, these children will demand me only for all twenty -four hours a day,” he explained the reason for his default.
Funny! By golly, funny! Obviously, no child, especially a teenager, an adult (any adult) needs twenty -four hours a day. Even as a mass-stall. But the teacher is probably needed for all the time - they will, inspire, and soothe.
I told him that the students sometimes need the teacher than he is. The teacher needs a student as a favorite toy or as a partner for the game, as a copper hoop that regulates pressure, as a faithful Friday - salvation from loneliness and gaining the meaning of life. But is such a luxury allowing - to “burn” students instead of logs in the furnace of their passions to maintain the optimal internal combustion temperature?!
My interlocutor languidly agreed, but soon began to talk about wonderful children, an even more wonderful method of communicating with them. A little about doubts, then about the misunderstanding of others, again about his wife and, finally, about their own children ...
* * *
I listened to this - of course capable - man and represented him tomorrow in a lesson among little boys and girls, “brothers”, as he calls them. They will be good in their "family". They playfully live another day and peacefully disperse home. With regret, but also with the hope of meeting tomorrow. A few years later, the teacher will write a dissertation, they - their examination works. The dissertation will be interesting and substantial, compositions - naive and complete errors. He will still be tormented in doubts, and they will not even understand what happened to them. He will again come to the new little “brothers” in order to once again check himself, plunge into their pure children's world, gain energy and mental strength. They will come into adulthood with their (his?) “Family” charter and will be forced to fight for the right to live according to these canons. It will gain temporary stability and restore normal internal temperature. They ... - And who knows what will happen to them?
So the question is: who needs more? Who really needs these twenty -four hours a day?
Maybe they would leave them at least half a day for self -training - then there will be a chance: for them - to stand on the ground, for us - to have less doubt.
So, the “average option” in nature, if it occurs, is extremely rare. But you can trace some patterns of the evolution of the teacher in the profession.
Except for functionaries in pedagogy (not talking about them), after the institute, young amateurs come to children. They are obsessed, “pounced” on students, which, however, is non -hazardous. Children do not take them seriously, communicate at a sensual level. Often fall in love. A young teacher can sometimes achieve fantastic results. But everything is temporarily, short -term, without serious consequences. The young teacher necessarily experiments, informally communicates, wants, like the young Salinderian Holden, to save, and someone really manages to catch the edge of the abyss. He believes in himself, in children, full of energy and optimism. It would be ridiculous to see the young teacher serious and reasonable. He would clearly fall out of the zone of childhood attention or, conversely, would fall into it, but it was unlikely that he would be worth it to envy. He would violate the laws of the genre: young - be young.
Gradually, professionalism comes with human maturity: smaller impressions, more experience. Relations with students are built consciously, communication - through the subject. Parents listen and are not jealous. The students in the lessons are more attentive, in the exams - more confident. But after lessons they rarely come, and after school they come on holidays.
This period is laid back to normal. You can’t get anywhere, there is a "depreciation of the soul." And rejuvenation does not occur with everyone.
But here is the first dangerous zone: those who, in their 40-50 years, lingered in amateurs, still burn like a dry fir-tree, ambitious, like young warriors, are truly notvable. Their influence increases, and the responsibility is still zero. Forty-year-old teachers-lovers are dangerous for the mental health of your children. The same Hesse seemed to write about them: “What you call passion is not the power of the soul, but the friction between the soul and the outside world. Where passion reigns, there is no excessive power of desire and aspiration, this power is simply aimed at some separate and wrong goal, hence the tension and spirit of the atmosphere. ”
At the next stage of developed professionalism, a genuine teacher through the profession solves a worldview issue for himself: he cannot work blindly, he must summarize, understand the meaning, evaluate his capabilities, make conscious decisions. He leaves, or improves in his specialty, or is preparing for teaching.

The second dangerous zone: those who simply switch to the autopilot become almost useless, because they are uninteresting and, therefore, non -acceptable.
Teachers, in a sense, is a return to the beginning, to amateurism, but in this case a new quality is born, students are born.

A familiar teacher asked if I had a German language teacher in my mind, since his former student needed to study him. I called a friend with whom I worked together, and agreed on everything. He called back, said the name of the teacher, called the price, address and phone. To which I heard in response: "Thank you, I’ll call him (the teacher) now." "For what?" - I was surprised: everything was already said, and the “boy” to the student, by the way, is already 25 years old, and he is the father of the family ... Maybe he will try?
What is it after all? How much can you nurse? Rather, they do not ask for themselves what, in fact, is not asked, and there is no objective need. How much care can be shown, to patronize adults, exposing them and yourself in absurd form. Or we want us to play along with us all the time: “What to take from it, if you want to be useful, significant. We are tolerant, it’s not a pity. ”
We strive to be on duty “their life”, although no one specially, for the whole period, did not authorize us for this. We zealously monitor their successes. We need to be aware of their affairs, and if something is wrong ... Yes, yes, if something is wrong - we are here. Fire team in anticipation of flame, ambulance in anticipation of a fracture.
As it is clear, when we missed and “tinkled”, wished to see, met, talked, spent, lousy - and left this wonderful evening in his memory. How nice, when they missed them, they called, asked for a visit, arrived, visited, and you heard enough.
Let everything go its normal, natural turn. They are engaged in their lives, we are our own. Sometimes we intersect. When necessary, we will certainly come to each other's aid. But we do not downstairs for years at their fate, we do not conduct a meticulous chronicle of their actions. What, there is nothing more to do? Do not convince yourself that you can hardly cut your time. It turns out that he has nowhere to put it. And uninteresting with himself.
We can understand us. And even sympathize. But still - we will leave them alone. Without managing the little things. But keeping in the heart. We did our job at one time. And how - sooner or later it will be visible.
So, speaking of the tendency of the modern post -Soviet school, we can say that this is a decrease in the number of teachers and an increase in the number of teachers, an increase in professionalism and a decrease in amateurism.
Parents who now perceive the school as an institution in which educational services are provided do not need guide for their children. Moreover, the less passion and initiative, the fewer claims to educate the personality of the student, the better and calmer - this is not a teacher’s business. But knowledge - take it out and put it. And it is desirable that you do not have to additionally take the tutors, so that, having received pragmatic knowledge, you can press the highest button of the social elevator. If it is working.
Only the meager part of the parents, overcoming his own jealousy, is interested in the active communication of the teacher with the student, in his comprehensive influence on the pupil.
In fact, there are not very many consumers of pragmatic knowledge today. The overwhelming majority of school generally only needs security, a reliable “storage chamber”, where you could stop children for a while so that the head would not hurt.
The request is changing - the functions of the school employee are changing. His pedagogical role turned more into social. He protects, warns the student’s asocial behavior, if necessary, entertains. At the same time, in many respects imitating what teaches. This is like in the Soviet joke: the state pretended to pay, and the people - what works.
Previously, any teacher was primarily an enlightener. This was the visiting card of the teacher in the USSR. In this sense, he felt - albeit not advertising - an aristocrat of the spirit.
