Political scientist Dmitry Mikhailichenko writes:
“The etiotic thinking that the state/power has super resursions and to resist it is useless, and often and dangerous, deeply entered the genetic memory of Russians. But with the state you can slyly coexist.
The crafty double was clearly manifested in 2021, when the authorities tried to force society to vaccinate from Covid, which turned out to be purchased by certificates and other strategies for leaving for coercion.
Now, in the context of the conversations about mobilization, society will react in the same way. Actually, therefore, universal mobilization as such has no prospects, and the discourse itself is harmful for the ratings of trust in the authorities, and they will try to turn as much as possible as soon as possible.
But the point is not only in mobilization. The Soviet society was more consolidated due to socio-economic and cultural factors, as well as the presence of some kind of ideology: everyone watched the same films, carried out leisure time about the same, and consumer capabilities were more or less similar.
Russian society is more atomized and deideologized, it has more diversity not only in terms of income, but also in the style of life and interests of individual citizens. ”
