Freedom for Udaltsov!

The head of the Moscow Helsinki Group Lyudmila Alekseeva, the leader of the movement “For Human Rights” Lev Ponomarev and the director of the Institute of Collective Action Karin Clément published an appeal demanding the release of the coordinator of the “Left Front” Sergei Udaltsov, who was arrested for 10 days after the “Day of Wrath” action on October 12 .

Udaltsov, who disagreed with the court's decision, went on a dry hunger strike. He was sent from the special detention center to the hospital, returned back, then sent to the hospital again - and so on three times back and forth. During one of the examinations in the hospital, the doctor justified the decision to return Udaltsov to the special detention center by the fact that Udaltsov “is not yet in that critical condition when hospitalization is necessary.”

Human rights activists note that when Udaltsov’s case was considered, the notorious judge Olga Borovokova refused to hear his testimony and to bring in a video recording, which, according to human rights activists, shows that Udaltsov did not commit an offense.

“We demand to stop the arbitrariness against Sergei Udaltsov, to give him and other public and political figures who are under pressure the opportunity to carry out their activities without hindrance,” the appeal says. The text was signed by Left Front activist, co-declarer of the Day of Wrath (together with Udaltsov) Konstantin Kosyakin, Solidarity activists Sergei Davidis and Ilya Yashin, and leader of the Movement in Defense of the Khimki Forest Evgenia Chirikova.

The authors of the appeal point out that in the special detention center Udaltsov “is usually not kept in the special conditions necessary for his condition, but is kept in a common smoke-filled cell; proper medical monitoring of his condition is not carried out.”
