Words
We often think that we live here on our own. That the rest of the world knows little about us that the ideas about our country are limited to half -Hollywood stereotypes. This is partly true. And when Russia fought for holding the 2014 Olympics and now, when he fights for the World Cup, people who promoted and promoting our applications have said more than once, they say, it’s good to British or Americans and in general, because, say, the British press reads the whole world, and our newspapers, in Russian, who reads? Therefore, it is more difficult for us to promote.
But it turns out they read. And in general, they carefully follow us. Now the British complained to FIFA at Alexei Sorokin, general director of the Russian “football” application. A few days ago, commenting on the increased activity of the British newspapers on the eve of FIFA's decision, he said in an interview with the newspaper Sport-Express:
“Do not scandalize, do not enter into squabbles, although we have something to answer. It is no secret to anyone, for example, that London has the highest crime rate, if you compare it with other European cities, and the highest level of alcohol consumption among young people. But why poke his nose in what everyone knows? "
Not everyone has read this interview, and certainly few attached significance to these words. But England complained, and it turns out that Sorokin was unsplaimed, no matter how he interpreted his words and no matter how he himself assured that he had nothing wrong with. It turns out who needs to read. Which, of course, does not cancel the fact that the British press is better known in the world than Russian. Sorokinsky words have already quoted everything to be lazy, and the whole world knows about them. In the same Sport-Express, he tried to explain and justify himself, but the excuses were without apologies, which caused even greater bewilderment, and in order not to create a real problem almost from scratch, the Minister Mutko had to apologize. The British recalled a complaint from FIFA, but the precipitate still remained.
And what a wonderful case was Odemwyvy with Peter. This is an African-Russian, who plays for the Nigeria national team. For several years he played for Lokomotiv, and now he went to play the same England for West Bromwich. In Lokomotiv, Peter, frankly, was lying Vanka and left the memory of himself unkind from the fans. But after his departure, they did not come up with anything better than hanging the gratitude banner of West Brom, who bought Odimwyye, drawing a banana. We are already lamenting that no one is watching our football in Europe, does not know the European fan, what a cool game in Russian fields and which megasvers are shining here. But it turned out that they were watching. And about the banner they immediately wrote everything! Moreover, it was the topic of “racism in Russia” that crawled out as the main and even British Prime Minister Cameron at a meeting with the President of FIFA, as it were, by the way, fogged that there was no such problem in the foggy Albion. He was not asked about it and the conversation was about something else, but he sharpened him. One stupid banner, built by three idiots, became almost the main problem of the Russian application. Already after we “justified”, they say, there is no racist subtext here, but the fact is that “banana” means an unsatisfactory assessment on student jargon. As they say, sometimes it’s better to be silent than to say ...
I’m saying all this to the fact that the word, firstly, is not a sparrow, but secondly, no matter how you laugh at political correctness, but our habit of grinding the language and not seeing anything terrible to anyone, except us, does not seem normal. And by the way, the only conclusion that was made of these stories is that the British newspapers are inflated from the fly of the elephant and that they can only create scandals and unhealthy sensations.
