In the issue of Novaya Gazeta dated July 11, 2011, an article by Sergei Kanev "Death of a Chekist" was published, in which a serious mistake was made, which was pointed out to us by the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan.

We quote the letter that came to the editor. “In this article, in particular, a certain Khalilov Namik Mustafa oglu is mentioned, who is allegedly the head of the department of state insurance supervision of the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan. In fact, the head of the State Insurance Supervision Service <…> is a completely different person - Khalilov Namig Jalil oglu.

We believe that the publication of the above false information offends the honor and dignity of Khalilov N.D., damages the reputation of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

We apologize to Mr. N.D. Khalilov, whose namesake is mentioned in the article as a person involved in a multimillion-dollar fraud, and assure that this mistake is unintentional.
