Well, Jews - suitcase, train station, Israel? Is it time for all of us to pack our belongings, grab our children and start moving towards the border? Someone will say: “What nonsense - a handful of freaks wrote an anti-Semitic letter, a Black Hundred newspaper published it, and we have to drop everything and run? Why on earth?” Oh, I don’t know, my dear relatives. In 1941, my grandmother’s sister refused to leave Pinsk, a small town in western Belarus. She then said: “Why should we run? Aren't the Germans people? You might think they are worse than communists..."
First of all, I would like to note that the authors of the letter to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in which they call on the Russian authorities to ban the activities of Jewish organizations in our country as “extremist,” are, of course, freaks; only 19 of them are State Duma deputies. And the rest of the signatories, if you believe the words of one of the initiators of this “patriotic” speech, former TV presenter and deputy Alexander Krutov, are increasingly decent people, “cultural and artistic figures.” Just think, I’m surprised, you say, no matter who you look at our deputies, you immediately want to cross to the other side of the street. Don’t we know that the former governor of the Krasnodar Territory Nikolai Kondratenko or General Albert Makashov, who also signed the letter, are full-blown anti-Semites? Do we really need to pay attention to their nonsense? However, all my genetic experience suggests that it is undoubtedly necessary.
I am not at all going to analyze the pathetic arguments that the authors of this disgusting letter give in defense of their arguments, because if someone believes that Jews knead matzah dough with the blood of Christian babies, then nothing can be done about it. I am not going to enter into this fruitful debate - there is no point in it.
You just need to understand one simple thing: pogroms inevitably follow the appearance of documents of this kind. This has always been the case for many hundreds of years, and not only in Russia. Especially when the authorities did not react in any way to such demarches or secretly encouraged them.
And what, perhaps, our fascists were immediately shackled and put in prison? Maybe they are facing trial? Perhaps we heard some kind of angry rebuke from some official? For example, President Vladimir Putin. He seems to be going to Auschwitz. But if Putin has nothing to say about the vile behavior of the fascists in his own country, then why is he going to Auschwitz? Who is he going to mourn there?
The fact that on Tuesday the Black Hundred deputies withdrew their paper from the Prosecutor General’s Office should not reassure us - the Kremlin simply realized that otherwise an international scandal could not be avoided.
The conclusion from this story is simple: Russia is turning into a state where it is dangerous for Jews to live. And when you discuss what happened in a narrow family circle, make plans for the future, remember that my grandmother’s sister, who ended her life in Auschwitz, was still mistaken - the fascists are worse than the communists. But remember also that leaving is not the only option. Sometimes the Jews fought back. For example, in the Warsaw ghetto.
