A very expected result

Alexander Ankvab, the deputy of the deceased Sergei Bagapsh, became the President of Abkhazia. According to Kommersant, the results became known on the night of August 26-27, immediately after the elections. However, it came as a surprise to many that the elections were held in one round. According to the local Central Election Commission, 55% of voters voted for Ankvab. At the headquarters of his rival, former Vice President Raul Khadzhimba, who previously fought in elections against Bagapsh, they are talking about manipulations during the elections in the form of some additional lists. The team of his other rival, Prime Minister Sergei Shamba, is gathering in opposition to the victorious president - as the newspaper writes, his headquarters “understood that Alexander Ankvab would not take them into his team.” Shamba took second place in the elections, Khadzhimba came third.

The opposition will try to take revenge in the parliamentary elections, which are due to take place in Abkhazia in a year.

As for the second republic, whose independence from Georgia was recognized by Russia and a modest number of South American states, elections will soon be coming in South Ossetia, and the current president, Eduard Kokoity, who has served his term, will no longer take part in them.
