Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said that Alexander Litvinenko enjoyed a bad reputation and this was the reason for his dismissal from the FSB. Ivanov told about this in an interview with Reuters.
“When Putin dismissed Litvinenko, he was aware of numerous cases of violation of the law by the latter,” the agency quoted the Minister’s words quoted. "For us, Litvinenko was nothing. We do not care about what he stated and what he wrote about, being on his deathbed," said Ivanov, commenting on the dying note of Litvinenko.
Later, the press secretary of Sergei Ivanov explained to reporters the words of the minister, saying that Litvinenko was not personally dismissed by Vladimir Putin, but at the time when he headed the FSB.
Earlier, the father of Alexander Litvinenko said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was to blame for the murder of his son. "My son’s cynical murder was a calculating act of intimidation. I have no doubt that he was killed by the FSB and that the order came from the former KGB agent President Putin. He was the only one who could give such an order. I have no doubt that this was done by Putin’s people," said Walter Litvinenko in an interview with the British newspaper Independent.
