He despised the war.
He despised Real Policy . He was sure that the time to solve the issues of the world device passed by force. He believed in the choice of peoples. He released the political prisoners. He stopped the war in Afghanistan and the nuclear weapons race. He told me that he refused to press the nuclear attack button even in training! He saw tests of tests where the flame was eaten at home, and cows and sheep. The same sheep that he was proud of in his Stavropol.
He loved a woman more than his work.
I think he simply could not hug her if his hands were in blood.
He did not consider the murder a valor.
He said goodbye to communism. He was constantly reproached by supporters of the empire that he gave to Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland. He once answered with indescribable sarcasm: “And to whom did I give? Germany - to the Germans. Poland - Poles, Czech Republic - Czechs. And who needed? "
And a few years later, in a conversation with the New Gazeta about new dictatorships, he suddenly said: “Write down to remember everything: the dictator should have one rule - always keep a completely seasoned plane at the secret airfield ...” Its black humor was very good.
Once, two years ago, he wrote a very serious report for the UN and decided to read it at us at a friendly table when the glasses were already raised. He took out a thick pack of paper from the portfolio, we prepared to politely listen to ... And there on the first page there was only one phrase: “Forbid the war”! "This is all?" - we asked. "What else?" - he answered and allowed to drink.
... But between the world and the nuclear explosion no longer stands a man named Gorby. Who will replace it? Who?
We will remember forever: he loved a woman more than his work, put human rights above the state, and appreciated the peaceful sky more than personal power.
I heard that he managed to change the world, but could not change his country. Maybe so.
But he made both the country and the world an incredible gift - he gave us thirty years of the world. Without the threat of global and nuclear war. Who else is capable of this?
But.
The gift is over. There is no more gift. And there will be no more gifts.
