Again, the Vedomosti newspaper confuses the minds of Petersburgers, promising to take away from us our beloved governor Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko and appoint it to the government. Such assumptions are completely offensive to me, since the mayor of the Northern capital, in my modest opinion, is worthy of at least the successor.
Valentina Ivanovna - and this is obvious to any unbiased observer - would be an ideal successor. She is not capable of cunning wiring, according to which Vladimir Vladimirovich can move to London to permanent residence, following Boris Abramovich. In addition, she has a lot of experience in the Komsomol-party work, and she understands the rules of bureaucratic subordination better than any young jumps.
At the same time, within the framework of the authority delegated to her, Valentin Matvienko can act quite independently and decisively that she has repeatedly demonstrated in the subject of the federation entrusted to her. Another question is whether these actions are always effective. But such a criterion as effectiveness is not at all key to evaluating Russian officials, and even more so. The successor should not do anything at all that could overshadow the accompany of his famous predecessor.
Another important competitive advantage of Valentina Matvienko - with the exception of Evgeny Primakov, she practically does not have good friends within the Moscow elite, and she was not noticed in connections with any opposing grouping. That is, it can be that compromise successor, the appearance of which will save everyone else from the fratricidal war for the presidential chair.
The only problem is that Valentina Matvienko is sometimes fond of formal things. For example, she is very proud that over the years of her reign, the city budget tripled, without thinking about the effectiveness of the expenditure of state funds. She dreams of going down in history as a builder of the first Gazprom skyscraper in St. Petersburg, although if the tower is still built, it will mutilate the city landscape and the northern capital will disappear from the UNESCO World Heritage List. The pathos return of the Federal Voice, after winning the fifth fifth channel of the federal frequency bullet, turned out only by the fact that the disgrace, which could be seen in the same city, now sees in others.
I think Valentina Ivanovna shares my thoughts. In the sense that he also considers himself a good and promising successor. Exactly a year ago, “New Izvestia” either jokingly, or seriously wrote about the Valentine Great project, giving the public a great idea of the appointment of a St. Petersburg governor with the new president and comparing it with Catherine II. In St. Petersburg, Smolny did not develop this topic in any way and even made more or less sluggish attempts to stop its discussion. However, the thought of Valentine the Great clearly sunk into the governor's heart.
Starting from this spring, Valentina Matvienko, without visible reasons, began to develop rabid PR active. Of the numerous publications in the media, the townspeople learned with interest that, according to the latest data from sociologists, the Governor’s rating is 76% (evil languages claimed that in fact two times less). At the end of May, speaking to the deputies, Valentina Matvienko promised to resettle all Khrushchevs and communal services and was engaged in this important social task all summer. Finally, despite the fact that in March, during the elections to the city parliament, she flatly refused to enter the list of United Russia, now she decided to play big politics and is ready to head this list.
I’m not sure, of course, whether Valentina Matvienko seriously expects to become a successor, but clearly makes every effort for this. My competent acquaintances, however, upset me and say that according to the latest intelligence data, all attempts by the St. Petersburg governor to break into the successors sharply stopped. But I believe that intelligence is mistaken. We, Petersburgers, of course, be very sorry to part with the wonderful Valentina Ivanovna. But we will step over ourselves and share it with everyone else. Because - where do we have one so much happiness?
