Representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Vedomosti newspaper reports, complained to the Central Election Commission that federal television channels, covering the nomination of candidates at election congresses, gave a clear preference to Medvedev. According to monitoring data from the Center for Research of Political Culture of Russia (TSIPKR), stories about the candidate of United Russia were shown 2.5 times more often and 4.4 times longer than about the candidate of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov. The communists expressed their dissatisfaction with this. To which the legal department of the Central Election Commission calmly noted that it had not discovered any facts of hushing up the congress of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. And the heads of TV channels reported that the law does not oblige them to conduct “timing of coverage of candidates’ election campaign events.”
We must assume that in the coming days Medvedev will completely and completely fill the television airwaves. On January 21, he will become an official presidential candidate. The next day he will speak at a specially assembled All-Russian Civil Forum. Then - at the congress of the Russian Lawyers' Association. Then it will be time for a report on the environment at a meeting of the Security Council. And there is no injustice here, it’s just that TV channels will inform the population about the tireless activities of the Deputy Prime Minister for the benefit of the population under his jurisdiction.
