The case of Anna Shavenkova, who hit two girls with a car, one of whom subsequently died, will be considered again. Earlier, the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk sentenced her to three years in prison in a penal colony, but with a deferment of almost 14 years - when Shavenkova’s child reaches 14 years of age. Many observers explained such a lenient sentence by the fact that the accused is the daughter of the chairman of the regional election commission Lyudmila Shavenkova. The victims' defense challenged the verdict in the regional court, and now the court has overturned this decision and sent the case for a new trial.
The accident occurred on December 2. A car with Shavenkova behind the wheel jumped out onto the sidewalk from the roadway at high speed and hit sisters Elena and Yulia Pyatkov, students of the Irkutsk University of Economics and Law. Elena Pyatkova died in the hospital without regaining consciousness, Yulia remained disabled for the rest of her life. In the video of the accident that quickly spread on the Internet, you can see that Shavenkova first began to inspect the damage to her car, but did not approach the injured girls.
