Former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev and Russian State Duma deputy from United Russia Alexander Lebedev acquired 49% of the shares. Against the backdrop of numerous “ideological” sales, this news caused alarm among the public. However, the editorial office assures that nothing will change - the editorial policy will remain the same. They say that shares are just money needed for the development of the newspaper. Gorbachev himself stated that “he and his friend” bought the shares in order to preserve the independence of the newspaper, and they would not use the purchase for “corporate” needs.
