The Supreme Court of Mordovia for the second time overturned the decision of the Zubovo-Polyansky District Court to deny parole to former Yukos lawyer Svetlana Bakhmina. Bakhmina remains in custody with her one and a half month old daughter - according to the Supreme Court ruling, her fate will again be decided by the same district court. The judge, however, will be different.
According to Bakhmina’s lawyer Roman Golovkin, the Zubovo-Polyansky court will most likely begin to consider the application for parole no earlier than in a month and a half. The process may drag on even more if the petition is considered not in Mordovia, but in the Moscow region, where Bakhmina is now located - in one of the civilian hospitals near Moscow she gave birth to her daughter Anna on November 28, 2008.
