The Supreme Court recognized the legality of the overturning of the acquittal in the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. Thus, the supervisory appeal of the lawyer of one of the accused, Murad Musayev, to declare the reversal of the acquittal illegal, was rejected.

Now the Supreme Court has returned the case to the prosecutor's office. In addition, the Supreme Court granted the petition of Politkovskaya’s relatives to combine the case against the Makhmudov brothers and Sergei Khadzhikurbanov with the case against the alleged perpetrator of the murder and those who ordered it. A new, combined case cannot be brought to court yet, since the suspected perpetrator of the murder, Rustam Makhmudov, brother of Dzhabrail and Ibrahim, has not been detained.
