This is not the first readership that our site holds, but it is special. Today we are trying to summarize the era that, over the existence of our site in two incarnations ( OpenSpace . Ru and Colta.ru): more than ten years from 2008 to 2019. The events that we recall, and the people who personify them are often the heroes of our publications. And today we want to make the first attempt to understand how it was.

This time we offer you more than one vote, but as much as eight - according to the number of our thematic sections. Each of the lists, with all the obvious incompleteness, gives a picture of what was happening in each of the zones that we are interested in - from literature to media, from art and cinema to public life in general.

Not all participants in our lists cause the editors sympathy. But each of them was a noticeable actor of the cultural and social process: one of those whose presence changed the overall picture, those whose actions had consequences that are visible today. This determines the task of our vote: in each of the sections, we ask you to choose the one or those who can serve as a symbol of the outgoing decade in Russia.

We promise that according to the results we will prepare large materials about heroes (or anti -heroes - see!) For decades and try to understand what exactly made them key figures of decades.

In addition, we decided to summarize the general results of ten years , and you will see the chronicle of the main events of 2008-2019, compiled by our editors in all areas and all kinds of arts in order to remind you and you about what happened during this time. Moreover, we have prepared for you a “dictionary of tenths” , compiled by philosophers, political scientists, directors, publicists.

By the way, we promise not to concentrate on the past and at the beginning of the year we will make a mapping of a new cultural reality for you: what the year 2020 looks like in the cultural field, what are the power lines that mark it, in what relations are different players and what are those who will become heroes of the new decade. Cartography should be understood literally: authors, artists, designers will work on it. Moreover, we hope that she will even become a book.

Voting is on November 20 and ends at midnight on December 18.

How we made editorial lists

The editors included only those who, from its point of view, really influenced the reality surrounding us. In our lists there are people with a variety of political and public positions. The result of our experiment is unpredictable both for readers and for the editorial office - but the very attempt to bring the first results of the decade seems to us or not not to us. We hope that in the end you and I will be able to understand something new about ourselves and about time.

All our lists are subjective, voluntaristic. If you want to argue, we are waiting for your comments! If the lists lack someone whose presence seems necessary to you, write about it on our social networks-after the vote is over, we will discuss an alternative user list and what and why it has expanded with an editorial choice.

How to vote

1. Choose from one to three people who seem to you (namely you) with iconic figures that have determined for you the era of 2008-2019 in Russia. You may like them or not like them: the place that they occupied in cultural and public life and in your thoughts is important.

2. You can vote only once.

3. Please be honest: any attempts at technological wrappers will be monitored and suppressed.

When will the result be known

The voting results will be announced on Colta.ru on December 20, 2019.
