Classic reggae
There are undisputed classics everywhere and always, even among notorious nihilists and subversors of authority there are always a couple of subversive founders to be found. The followers of reggae culture - people who seem to be self-sufficient and live in a relaxed rhythm - have one undisputed and unconditional classic, pioneer and godfather. This is Bob Marley. February 6th is his birthday; Marley fans around the world celebrate this date for more than one day, but stretch out the celebration process for almost a month. Russia is not far behind: last year, the first two weeks of February were spent in Moscow clubs under the banner of Bob Marley. This year the organizers decided not to waste time on trifles. Keeping the memory of the noisy and successful reggae festival that crowned last summer, they are going to hold one large-scale celebration in the Gorbunov House of Culture. Another almost reggae classic will come to Moscow: the group Zion Train, led by vocalist Molara. Among the Russian reggae figures, “Friday”, “Karibasy”, “Jah Division” are promised - and those who are not announced in the posters will still come: ceremonies at Bob Marley’s birthday are inappropriate. It will be hot, no doubt about it.
Academic rock
Some fans of Russia's oldest rock bands no longer strive to attend stadium concerts of many thousands of their idols. Many are already tired of the jostling and yelling; many are tired of the trick of breaking the guitar, many wince at the sound quality. At the same time, old love - we must understand - does not rust. The ideal place for such knights of rock, tired of an overly hectic pastime, was the Gorky Moscow Art Theater, a kind of hybrid of a concert hall and a rock venue. Fans can be satisfied: they are provided with seats, quite intelligible sound and, in general, bontonity. The group “Resurrection” should look completely organic within the walls of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater - musicians playing “academic” rock, complex, multi-tonal. And Sergei Chigrakov, who shouts until he is hoarse at concerts: “Oh, I don’t love the major, but a political prisoner!” - seems to fit in quite well. Chizh is also quite academic in modern times. (The “Chizh and Company” group at the Gorky Moscow Art Theater on February 4, and the “Sunday” group on February 7.)
Marimba +
On February 7, at the Apshu ensemble plays the Marimba + club . The sextet, consisting of five quite traditional instruments and one exotic one, was named after this distinctive, exotic one. The musicians - friends, colleagues, graduates of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music - took the first shocking step when they added marimba to the flute, clarinet, cello, double bass and percussion. An empty pumpkin instead of resonators under a wooden plate is the marimba, an ancient instrument or an African goddess with a healing gift. The leader of the ensemble, Lev Slepner, is firmly convinced of the sacred qualities of the marimba. The crazy instrumental solution gave the musicians an amazing sense of genre freedom and Mozartian lightness. They play classics and art rock, ethnic motifs and jazz variations. They easily adapt to a wide variety of famous musicians with whom they happen to collaborate. With Daniil Kramer and Arkady Shilkloper they have a frantic jam session. They are charged with the drive of a rock concert and the energy of all African mythological creatures combined. In their music, ironic and passionate, one can hear the echo of ancient legends.
