The Verkhovna Rada deputy and presidential candidate Sergei Taruta published a report on his work at the Munich Security Conference on his Facebook . In particular, he said that he took part in a round table on energy security, where, according to him, the main issue was Nord Stream-2.
“There are discrepancies in the positions of Europe with the United States. Europe looks at this issue from the point of view of economic pragmatism - it is beneficial for them to buy gas from Russia. And the USA - from the point of view of security. In their opinion, buying gas from Russia to Europe means buying gas from a potential enemy. I believe that Ukraine in the gas issue may cease to be a problem for Europe, and become a solution. Ukraine can increase its own gas production and supply it to Europe. We can replace Russia in this market. And become a strong subject in the global gas market, ”wrote Taruta.
The leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov said that Taruta’s statement “sounds quite funny”.
“They cannot provide themselves, but here Russia will be replaced. Our country delivered 200 billion cubic meters to the far abroad in 2018. Taruta also said that Ukraine will produce 50 billion cubes - a person, apparently, does not know textures. Of course, it is impossible for Ukraine to replace Russia in the gas market of Europe. They mines 19 billion cubic meters per year, ”Yushkov told RT .
According to the expert, the peak of gas production in Ukraine reached in the 1970s, but since then there has been a systematic reduction in production volumes, since the deposits have been exhausted.
“Even before the Second World War, they waged prey in the west of the country-at the Carpathian deposits-and in the 1970s the country reached the peak of production. The Ukrainian side produced about 70 billion cubic meters of gas, and since then there is a decline in production. Now they get about 19 billion cubic meters of gas, and you need to constantly invest money in new technologies, to carry out constant drilling in order to at least stay at the current level. In general, Ukraine continues to reduce production. She had the hope of obtaining shale gas, but in the east of the country where there is such a deposit, there is a war, ”Yushkov explained in the commentary of the fan .
He also added that American experts who worked in Poland "found nothing but tectonically unattractive reserves."
“Even if there were no armed conflicts in Ukraine, no one would get there anyway. God forbid the Ukrainians to stay on the current volume of production, ”Yushkov summed up.
The State Duma deputy from the Republic of Crimea Ruslan Balbek, in an interview with a correspondent of the publication, also doubted that hydrocarbons in Ukraine are sufficient.
“Ukrainian natural gas to Europe is not enough for lighters. To date, all the "global" gas projects of Ukraine have turned out to be failure. In today's Ukraine, there is so much populism that any “space” statements are issued as know-how from the category: “Vote for me-and you will heal like a European country,” RT Balbek told RT .
Previously, Taruta has already stated that "Ukraine has colossal gas reserves - third in Europe and one of the largest in the world."
“We need 5-7 billion investments in the oil and gas industry using new modern technologies that will fully provide us with independence in imports. This means that we will lower the price with us. This can be done in five years. After 7-10 years, we will be able to export huge volumes, lowering the gas price by 40-50%. This means that all tariffs will be lower. This means that our products, which are manufactured from gas, will be more competitive. There will be more profits, the budget, each enterprise and a person will earn more. This means that we will consume much less than today, imported gas, imported oil. This will give us stability, ”said Taruta on the air of Newsone .
Recall that earlier France and Germany agreed on disagreements around the Northern Stream-2. The European Union developed amendments to the EU gas directive. They allow you to complete and put the gas pipeline. This information was negatively perceived in Ukraine.
“It scares me that Germany pulled France to its side in matters of Northern Stream-2. Our partners France and Germany, supporting the project, “merge” Ukraine and European security, ”said Anna Gopko, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee in an interview with the Ukrainian newspaper Day .
