Detention in Yerevan

The Security Service of Armenia (SB) at the request of the United States detained Russian Sergey Mironov at the Yerevan airport, suspected of washing 50 thousand dollars and illegally transferring military technologies. Lawyer Mironova Karen Nersesyan claims that his client did not have access to military technologies. The detainee worked as the head of the video technology department in the Russian-Belarusian company, in the United States he was only once-in 2013. While on a business trip, he stayed in the States for a week.

“So far, we don’t know exactly what he is accused of, during the detention we announced that he was wanted by the US authorities for laundering 50 thousand dollars and the transfer of some technology. There is no information in the Russian Interpol that my client is on the wanted list. Obviously, this is the initiative of the United States, ”said Nersesyan RIA Novosti .

Mironov, along with his wife, was going to spend a vacation in Armenia. Immediately upon arrival at Yerevan airport, he was detained. Julia Mironova told the Zvezda television channel that the security officers stopped them at the passport control: “He was detained, is in the preliminary imprisonment chamber, and on Monday there will be a court to arrest and begin the investigation. I would like Russia to take its citizen. So that already at home they deal with the situation. ”

Life , citing a source in law enforcement agencies, reports that Mironov was on the international wanted list at the request of the United States. The American authorities suspect him of illegal weapons. Most likely, on Monday, the court will resolve the issue of Mironov's extradition to the United States. In addition, the issue of providing him with a defender is being decided, since the Moscow lawyer Karen Nersesyan cannot work in Armenia without accreditation. “The preliminary investigation body has not yet sent us any request to provide the detainee for the defender,” Tsovinar Khachatryan, a press secretary of the chamber of lawyers of Armenia, told Interfax .

The Russian consul has already visited Mironov in the isolator. The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation said that the detention of a Russian citizen in Armenia is a violation of international norms. “If there are any complaints to him, they had to report to Russia and already in the relevant structures and bodies of the Russian Federation. And to demand that this detention is carried out through the Interpol on the basis of objective data, ”said Elena Sutormina, chairman of the commission for the development of public diplomacy and the support of compatriots abroad.

There is no information about Sergey Mironov in the Russian Interpol. His name is absent in the list of wanted people. The US State Department has not yet commented on the situation with the detention of a Russian. The head of the press service of the department redirects journalists to the Armenian authorities.
