According to statistics, cardiovascular and oncological diseases are the most common causes of death of US citizens. Specialists from centers for the control and prevention of US diseases (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention) decided to establish what causes of death that are not among the most common, nevertheless, have an abnormally high frequency in specific states. As a result of their work, a map of the most common unusual causes of death in the United States was created .
The card was compiled by Francis P. Boscoe Francis from the Center for Statistics of Oncological Diseases of the state of New York and Eva Pradhan from the New York Health Department. As Francis Bosco admits, the idea to create such a card came to him when he saw a map, where it showed which musicians prefer to listen to online residents of each of the states. The Bosque decided that such an approach can be used when studying something more serious.
In the preparation of this card, scientists analyzed a list of 136 causes of death in the United States for 2001 - 2010. Then they compared national statistics and data for individual states to identify unusual excesses of the average.
Considering the map, it is important to remember that it reflects not absolute numbers, but an excess of the average level. The number of dead from this reason can be very small, but if it exceeds the indicators in the country, it is taken into account on the map. For example, AIDS became the most common unusual cause of death in Florida, where 15 thousand people died from it. In Texas, the leader became tuberculosis with 679 dead. In Louisiana, a surge of mortality from syphilis was found, although the number of its victims was only 22 people. Finally, for the state of Montana, the card indicates as a cause of death a rapidly progressive nephrotic and nephritic syndrome, but the number of only 11 people who died from this disease.
If we consider the number of cases of death, then the record among abnormally frequent causes of atherosclerosis in Michigan (37292 people). The percentage of the chosen causes of death among all the fixed deaths in the state is also very different. The maximum amounted to 1.8 % (Delaware, atherosclerosis), and at least 0.0005 % (Illinois, kidney disease).
What dangers threaten residents of each state?
Death from tuberculosis, as already mentioned, has an increased frequency in Texas.
The meningococcal infection, which in particular, causes meningitis, threatens the inhabitants of Washington and Missouri.
Death from sepsis, blood poisoning, had an unexpected surge in New Jersey.
Syphilis statistically often leads to death in Louisiana, AIDS in Florida and in the Federal District of Colombia.
The malignant neoplasms of the lymphoid, hematopoietic and related tissues seized leadership in the state of Mississippi.
Unexpected problem: power failure. Nevertheless, it was she who was noted in North Carolin, Vermont, Gawaii and New Hampshire.
Acute coronary heart disease is indicated for Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia.
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases: Michigan, Delaware and Colorado.
The fact that the flu cannot be treated not seriously, residents of the state, northern and southern Dakota and Wyoming should be especially good.
Like influenza, acute infections of the lower respiratory tract pose a threat to the inhabitants of the northern states, namely Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ayov, Indiana, Negro and Kansas.
Although the mining and coaling industry in the United States has significantly reduced, for some states, pneumoconiosis is still an important cause of death - lung diseases caused by prolonged inhalation of production dust, for example, coal. They were characteristic of Pennsylvania, Western Virginia and Kentucky.
Acute and rapidly progressive nephrotic and nephritic syndrome in Montana was already mentioned.
The kidney diseases are threatened by residents of Illinois, prostate hyperplasia (adenoma) to residents of California. The inflammatory diseases of the female pelvic organs were extended abnormally in two neighboring states: New York and Connecticut.
Finally, "non -classified symptoms" are indicated for Georgia.
In some states, as statistics revealed, the most frequent unusual causes of death were not illness at all. Transport accidents and their consequences played this role in Aidaho and in Alaska. The imprudence when handling firearms abnormally abnormally leads to death in Alabama and Tennessee. Death from firearms are also frequent in Arizona and Arkansas. The term Legal International denot the death of a criminal killed by the police or other people at the crime scene. Such a cause of death turned out to be more often than the average for the country for Oregon, Nevada and New Mexico. Accidents especially often carry the lives of the inhabitants of Nevada, Rhizda-Alend, Massachusetts, Maryland and Indiana.
It should be remembered that the card indicates only one abnormally frequent unusual cause of death, while in some states there may be two such reasons. For example, for Nevada, as the creators of the card clarify, in addition to the increased probability of being shot by the police, atherosclerosis could also be indicated.
