A court in Dagestan ordered administrative arrest of five participants in the riots at Makhachkala airport, TASS reports citing the Supreme Court of the republic.
“By court decisions dated October 31, 2023, the men were found guilty of committing an offense under Part 2 of Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. One of them was sentenced to administrative arrest for a period of 10 days, four received a similar punishment for a period of six days,” the agency said in a statement .
At the same time, according to RBC, the court arrested has already seven riot participants. Previously, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for mass riots, and security forces detained 83 people suspected of participating in the pogroms.
On Sunday evening, hundreds of people stormed Makhachkala airport. They were looking for Israeli citizens who were allegedly supposed to fly to the republic on a flight from Tel Aviv. Dozens of people ran out onto the airfield. They threw stones at the police, tried to get into one of the planes, and also stopped a bus with passengers and checked their passports.
The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, blamed the “Banderaites” for the riots at the Makhachkala airport. And the Kremlin called these events “the result of outside interference.”
