A product called Victor Ginzburg’s film based on Victor Pelevin’s novel “Generation Pi” has all components to be recorded in successful art projects. Rather, three of them are three advantages and three obvious components of hypothetical success. First: Literary First Proceedings - Pelevin. I don’t read Pelevin myself, he is bored with me, but because I hear from all sides: “Pelevin, Pelevin ...” - I conclude that Pelevin is a very good primary basis.
The second is the name "Generation Pi", which is more than the usual name and more than half the age. To come up with such a name, to hook at once and the time, and the generation, and perestroika is worth a lot. This is right away about a lot, to set the frame. Almost the same as writing the novel "Mother" after the first revolution.
And the third is a niche.
The fact is that the era of the 1990s, when such a grandiose pi-pivot in our country and such a grandiose ideological pi-pivot in the world occurred, is still not described by anyone, its hero was not found, the cultural niche corresponding to it is not occupied, not filled. In fact, the book of Pelevin also does not really fill it, being too miniature for that artifact, but at the same time Pelevin, as it were, subscribes his copy of his copy into a possible future. Now whatever the smart about the era of "pi", everything will be ... "After Pelevin."
Now about the cinema, which was ventured to make a “cult” novel.
As you know, they shot it for a long time. Seven years. Having spent a lot of money. And they achieved when it was completely outdated. When finally forgotten the firmware. When it was a shame to not release this movie at all. When all other film production in Russia almost died, and I still want to report something. When the time came to get out of the shelves (another premiere - “Master and Margarita”, 1994), then “Generation P” flashed on a living thread. And it seems to be even made to recapture the grandmas.
Moreover, they decided to beat off on the principle condemned in their own film. The principle is simple: everything is sold and the quality has nothing to do with it. In the blink of an eye, the Information was clogged with countless articles and reports, the meaning of which: “bright”, “sharp”, “provocative”, long -awaited (which is true), not to watch “Generation Pi” - not to respect oneself.
However, what am I talking about? This is normal. Normally for Russia. Normally, for the Russian period, “Malkartinia”. And even normally for the entire world film industry as a whole, which has recently been at a crossroads: to die, but to fulfill the covenants of all sorts of different Ingmars of Bergmans or finally slide on the technology of games and gadgets? The dilemma “Rublev” or “Avatar” in “Generation Pi” is organically solved in favor of the “matrix”.
What, I must say, is not so bad. There are separate successful scenes in the film. Better to say - clips. Since director Victor Ginzburg is a noble clipmaker from Los Angeles, he only knows how to shoot clips. As for modern youth, who can only watch clips, then they will undoubtedly divorce it with computer graphics in the style of “night patrol”, acid fantasies, chips from fly agaric, artist “cord”, a brest, obscenities, cynicism.
All this will be politically correctly involved in the black legend of the “90s”, when the policy supposedly made exclusively television, and image makers (Mordodels) under the high could create the president from any courtyard punks.
And a small dose of paranoia. Next after "What to do?" damned Russian question: "And who is the customer of customers?"
What is unsuccessful
First of all, it is unsuccessful that the problem is too narrow, which is actually understandable only to a very narrow social group. In fact - a caste that has a professional attitude towards political advertising and in particular to television.
This is not even 10% of the audience. This is 10% of 10%. Or 10% of 10% of 10%, the rest are unlikely to understand. And it is unlikely that they will be as funny as we can see in the frame Andryush Vasiliev, to guess which of the actors here is “Helman”, and who is “Pavlovsky”.
The second is secondary.
In fact, in the memory of a brighter film - “99 francs” (a satire on the advertising business of Yana Kunen according to the novel by Frederick Begbeder, France, 2007) and even very good domestic comedies about the pre -election PR - “Features of national politics” (2003), “Elections Day” (2007). In the artistic plan, “Generation P” only repeats the once seen, emphasizing the bitter truth: outgoing for cinema is not at all the same as an endurance for wine.
The third is the topic for ten years.
No matter how terrible evil may seem like the image of the 1990s, it was in Favor only when there were political competition, real elections, when there was a struggle, and there was something to fight for. And this is ... a great time. Today is other things. And they, apparently, require a different movie.
What is very bad in this film. Lie
Lying about the 1990s. Because the 1990s is not only what is shown by Ginzburg. Not only bandits. Not only the trouble -free narcotic nonsense of the then legislators of public fashion. In the 1990s, there was also something that the youth was trying not to remind. The incredible, tragically devoted and stalled impulse of the then Russia to a democratic ideal. Today they try to dissolve him in mat, giggle, vulgarize ... In the 1990s, we lived, loved, hoped.
The marketing move is unlikely to be accidental: Generation P is timed to the 10th anniversary of the defeat of NTV, and the media imperial of evil in it is personified by a kind of television company with a green ball on the emblem. Calculation, they will remember, and here our films are in the bushes. A truly witty scene - when the bastard green ball is also rolled up by guards on the corridors. Although, in general, it turned out not very ethically - as it were, the bed bed fell. Our freedom of speech.
While shooting, much has changed in the biographies of stars. Trakhtenberg has died for two years. Andrey Vasiliev is not the editor -in -chief of Kommersant. Alexander Gordon - not in the Ether grid. But Mikhail Efremov, for example, played a man who was very similar to Gusinsky, not at all stinged at satirical colors. And today, for political reasons, the rain left for political reasons. So there would be a goose in business - I would not leave! Paradox-s!
At the premiere, Efremov went on stage with an unfinished tartlet, next to a large glass of Popkorna Teresi Vasiliev. Generation-zero looked at Generation Pi. Generation-Pi looked from the scene to generation-zero.
Everyone chewed popcorn. End.
