The vacation time, and whatever the day is a milestone in the recent history that each of us feels with the skin. On August 7, the Basayevt attacks on Dagestan in the 99th began. August 12 - the day of the death of Kursk. August 17 - default and a day later - the resignation of the government Kiriyenko. The 19th is the beginning of the Epel of the State Emergency Committee. Further, everyone can finish themselves.
In the traditional Russian way, reflected in the calendar, this period of time is also continuous events. August 14 - honey saved. 19th - apple (along with the transformation). And further until August 28 - to the Assumption, which is the third and most important rescue - bread. All these August holidays are milestones of harvest, harvest time ...
On August 18, President Vladimir Putin is going to meet with Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma - not somewhere, but in the country in Foros. Probably, our president has good reason to play with history and symbols.
It is doubly curious if it is done meaningfully. The meeting will be dedicated to the Ukrainian elections, the "hour of x" of the entire post-Soviet jelly unity that was born in Ugar August 91. It is clear, after all, that whoever won in October (or, more likely, November) in Kyiv, the previous, “Banny” CIS will be gone. Putin was already out of another time; Then Saakashvili appeared - but until Kuchma, the president of the Yeltsin formation, remains in Kiev in Kiev, then continues to live. It is no accident that Gleb Pavlovsky in the NG speaks of the "premiere campaign" of Yanukovych and the need to formulate a "presidential application" : in the Ukrainian elections the one who has previously had time to turn the wheel of time will win. Moreover, this in any case will be a turn not only for Ukraine, but for the entire "post -Soviet space".
In August 1991, having heard about the removal of Gorbachev and the seizure of the GKChP power, on the first plane, one young builder rushed to Moscow from Volgograd. And all three sleepless nights near the Supreme Council of Russia, he stood with the Muscovites on the barricades, listened to Yeltsin, who performed from the armored car, made the Molotov-Cocettiles, and on the 22nd participated in the rally of winners on the square renamed that day to the Square of Free Russia. The builder was called Shamil Basayev. Then it was his victory - the first of many victories.
The Square of Free Russia is now fenced off from people with a huge metal fence, and there is a harsh protection on the entrance - also that symbol, the legacy of October -93. And Shamil Basayev, one of the leading politicians of all the Big Russia, is far beyond the borders of the Russian Federation. When the leader of the Belarusian nationalists Zenon Poznyak at prohibited rallies in Minsk stated that Basayev was fighting for our independence, he told pure truth. As long as Russian soldiers were killed in Chechnya, not a single Belarusian (Ukrainian, Georgian, Kazakh) mother would never agree to return to a large country in order to pay for its unity with her blood.
But now the wheel of history has turned directly the other way around - and the pulse of this turn in Ukraine. No one thinks that Yanukovych and the business standing behind him will ever “surrender” the Ukrainian sovereignty, which is the main guarantee of their economic status. In this sense, there are now there are no mothers who could scare Poznyak. But there are completely different mothers - those whose children are fighting in Iraq today. And they will fight - in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Israel, Syria: wherever Americans need loyal allies, eager to earn authority and international status to support American campaigns - as the Poles are doing now.
In this sense, Yushchenko, regardless of his personal desires, is doomed to be persecuted by the shadow of this tax with blood - simply in his current position, which is the position of "Ukrainian Saakashvili." And therefore, probably, it will be extremely difficult for him to win - even despite all the huge advantages and resources that he has now. A kind of national idea of Ukraine - “My hut with the edge” - who worked perfectly in due time against Moscow, today works against its opponents. Fortunately, Russia also managed to settle on the outskirts, and this is now perhaps the best position of all possible.
Thirteen years, starting in August 1991, we - former scoops - existed in a state of collapse. Now this era ends irreversibly, and all real players without exception - including Saakashvili - are working to end as soon as possible. The time has come to harvest everything that was sown on empty land over the years. And therefore, probably, the meeting is in Foros and it is these days that is a very correct choice.
