About 3 a.m. in Moscow, several drones attacked the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant (NLMK) - the largest steel enterprise in the country, local residents in city chats said. At least three explosions were heard.
According to "Caution News", it is known about one victim. The workers of the plant were taken to the shelter, local residents write.
The telegram channel "VChK-OGPU" with reference to the former employee of the plant writes that the agglomeration workshops and the preparation of ore are burning. This can cause huge damage to the plant. The governor of the Lipetsk region Igor Artamonov in the middle of the night said that the fire was only in one workshop and supposedly quickly extinguished, but there were no victims. The press service of NLMK called the incident “cotton”.
RBC-Ukraine, citing sources, states that the attack was a special operation of the GUR and the SBU. According to Ukrainian special services, the installations of primary cooling of unpeeled coke gas are affected, which can turn into a long stop of the entire production.
The Novolipetsk plant produces at least 18% of all steel in Russia and is the key in the NLMK group of one of the richest people in the Russian Federation Vladimir Lisin (about 80% of all products). NLMC supplies steel, alloys and rental to enterprises of the Russian defense industry, on which ballistic and cruise missiles are produced. This is one of the key enterprises of the strategic industry.
NLMK also remains the key asset of Vladimir Lisin - the third richest Russian on the Forbes list in 2023 ($ 22.1 billion). During the first year of the war with Ukraine, he earned $ 3.7 billion. Lisin was recognized four times the richest oligarch of Russia - in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2022.
