On November 15, on the day of secondary processing in Murmansk, a presentation of a large -scale project was held on the organization of a stable battery collection system in Murmansk and the Murmansk region.
The organizers and ideological inspirers of the project were the public environmental organization "Nature and Youth" and the House of Youth "Mr. Pink ".
The presentation was held at the forum shopping center, in the same place the activists installed the first collection point on this project and collected about 10 kg of batteries.
“This project is unique to Murmansk and the Murmansk region, since now we have the opportunity not only to collect, but also to process batteries in Chelyabinsk, to receive metals from them and put them again into production,” says Nyl Ibrahimova, chairman of the organization “Nature and Youth”.
The problem of disposal of used batteries is currently extremely relevant. A spent battery is a source of danger to the environment. The nutrition element contains heavy metals and carcinogenic substances: mercury, lead, cadmium, tin, nickel, zinc, magnesium. If the battery falls on the landfill, its shell will decompose, and harmful substances will fall into the soil, which can lead to soil and water pollution.
The project of the city of Murmansk also decided to support the project so important for the region, allocating funds for the production of containers themselves (their activists produce their efforts) and shooting the film - a step -by -step instruction on the organization of a local ecological project in their city.
“Yes, the Youth Affairs Committee under the administration supported our project, but since the disposal of raw materials now costs 110 rubles per kilogram, we are forced to look for additional sources of financing the project,” Nylya explains.
It is worth noting that six months ago the processing cost 70 r/kg, and the processor was ready to take raw materials itself if the city collects from 100 kg of batteries and above. The terms of the contract have changed due to the fact that the economic situation in the country has ceased to be stable. Now, PIM activists will have to look for additional funds for the disposal of batteries and the transportation of raw materials, but they hope that the environmentally conscious business and the city administration will be able to allocate funds for such a socially significant environmental project.
- It seems to me that every resident of Murmansk should be interested in the implementation of this project, because this is simply our health with you, the chairman of PIM recalls. - Heavy metals tend to accumulate in the body, so it is better to accustom yourself to be an environmentally conscious citizen and take care of the surrounding space than to go to the doctors later.
The project was also supported by Orko-Invest company, the Kola Ecological Center and the Russian Social and Ecological Union.
- KEC and RSOES are involved primarily because it is an excellent environmental project. It is also an important sociocultural project. In the post -Soviet society, consumption increased significantly, and the responsibility did not increase. Understanding the need to be careful and responsible for your waste is an important part of this sociocultural development. For example, during the action, people from the other end of the city arrived and brought batteries that they saved for several years to surrender as soon as the possibility of safe disposal or civilized processing appeared. Unfortunately, many fellow citizens are not ready to wear batteries even to the neighboring courtyard. In general, there is still a lot of work. It is especially encouraging that the local authorities supported our initiative, ”says Vitaly Servetnik, a member of the CCECs and RSOES.
“Nature and youth” considers it important not only to collect batteries, but also to involve the youth of Murmansk and the Murmansk region in environmental activities, so PIM activists held a master class on the rational use of resources and taught schoolchildren to make DIY blocks from recyclables.
The project has a wide geography: Murmansk, Apatity, Kirovsk, Kandalaksha.
- In 2015, when the system will work in Murmansk, we plan to install boxes in the Murmansk region. Let's start with the city of Apatity, there we already have partners and interested residents. Also, after the presentation of the film - a step -by -step instruction that will gradually tell how to organize such a project in his city as to involve supporters in it, where to find funds, we hope that in other cities of Russia activists implement similar city projects. Who, if not we, will do it? - summed up Niall Ibragimova.
