“Russia is the heart of the Finno-Ugric world,” said Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, speaking from the rostrum of the VI World Congress of the Finno-Ugric peoples, which was held in early September in the Hungarian town of Shiofok, on the banks of Balaton.
“Vyatka is the heart of Finno-Ugric Russia,” the Kirovsky Governor Nikita Belykh, Kirovsky, could continue the thought of Vladimir Rostislavovich, he suddenly came to the same rostrum. But Nikita Yuryevich suddenly did not turn out. As did not end up in the Congress-among the delegations from four countries of the world, ten regions of Russia, twenty-four Finno-Ugric and Samodian peoples-and a separate delegation from the Kirov region. One observer. Alas.
But if you look at the situation soberly, then the reasons in order not only to be participants in the congress, but also to take a similar scale forums, Kirovites will even have more than other national republics. Or why, what do you think, Russian Finno-Ugers still do not agree on which city to consider the center of their ethno-language community? There are beautiful Finno-Ugric or, say, Samodian cities in Russia: Petrozavodsk, Syktyvkar, Salekhard, Izhevsk ... There are no cities-but there is no center. For, I think, each of them is associated with some specific people (or a group of peoples). Khanty-Mansiysk is rich, but this is the territory of Mansi and Khanty. Yoshkar-Ola is beautiful, but this is the territory of the Mari. Saransk is wonderful in quiet weather, but this is the territory of Erzyan and Mokshan.
Vyatka in this sense stands apart. On the one hand, here, thousands of years before us, the ancestors of almost all Russian Finno-Ugers were adjacent to us. On the other hand, none of them has the right to call her only their own. Terra Nullius. But, you must admit: what kind of slaughterhouse will appear in the local lovers to rename the argument in favor of returning to our city named after Vyatka. Hedgehog is clear that the capital of Finno-Ugric Russia should wear a Finno-Ugric name, and Vyatka-it is.
This idea would have served a good service to those who would like to see Nikita of the White Kirov governor until the end of the century. Who else with the presidents of Finland, Estonia and Hungary-regulars of all congresses and the main sponsors of the Finno-Ugric world-negotiations, if not Liberal Nikita? Or, say, with George Soros-who, although not completely Finno-Ugr, was also once a rustle.
The Seventh World Congress of Finno-Ugric peoples will be held in 2016 in the Finnish city of Lahti. The eighth-in 2020-could-in the Russian city of Vyatka. In general, we still have time to think and prepare well.
