Almost every owner of a pet talks with his favorite, as if he could support the conversation. In most cases, it really cannot. But there are also animals-polyplotes that are able to speak not only in their own language, but also a little in human. We’ll talk about them now.
Koshik, elephant
Koshik is an Asian elephant with a special talent: he knows how to speak. True, only a few, only five words in Korean: Annyong (Hello), Anja (sit), Aniya (not), Nuo (lie) and choah (good).
Apparently, Koshik himself does not understand what he says, but the ability of the elephant to imitate human speech is unprecedented. Koshik lives behind Yongin, South Korea, in the Everland zoo. Trainers argue that the elephant has learned to pronounce human words in 2004, and attribute this to close contact of the elephant with people throughout his life.
2. Knock, Belukha
Knock said his first words in 1984, when he was nine years old. For a person, this would be late, but the NOC is Belukha. He was caught in 1977, and in the end he learned to imitate human speech quite early. Although his ability suddenly disappeared after four years later, the kitsnok reached puberty, the fact that this happened at all is amazing.
3. Alex, African gray parrot
Alex was a gray parrot and the subject of a major scientific research that lasted more than 13 years. He was bought when he was only a year. The hostess, Irene Pepperberg, worked as an animal psychologist at the University of Arizona - she studied the language of animals in communication with each other.
Even the very name of Alex was an acronym for her experiment called “Animal Learning Experiment”. By the time of his death in 2007, Alex distinguished more than 50 objects, had a vocabulary of 100 words, they said about him that he had an intelligence of a four-year-old child. His last words addressed to Pepperberg were: "A behave good."
4. Hoover, seal
Found in 1971 by George and Alice Sunwall Hoover was still a cub. His human parents took care of him well: he received a name, ate fish in tons and quickly outgrown his bath. Then Hoover began to live in a pond near the house of his foster parents. Here he learned to speak and imitate the voices, including a kind of new English accent.
As a result, Hoover moved to the water park of New England, where he entertained visitors with replicas like "Well, hello!" Or "out of here!" Hoover died in 1985.
5. Od, pug
Odo, despite the stupid name, is not at all stupid. Although his vocabulary consists of only three words, this was more than enough to win the attention of the hearts of the US inhabitants. The dog was shown at the show “late at night” with David Letterman and on the Oprah Winfrey show, where the dog cheerfully shouted to his mistress Ruth: “I love you!”
6. Nkisi, African gray parrot
Nkisi, similar to Alex from our list, African gray parrot, has a much more extensive vocabulary and a more complete understanding of the world. In his dictionary 950 words, he is able to use them in the right context, often Nkisi speaks with complete sentences.
Nkisi is an amazing example of how little we know about animals. It seems that he even understands what verbal forms are: for example, he said “flew” in the past tense instead of “flying”, although he has not yet been taught this. The parrot also comes up with new names for those things that they did not call him. Jane Goodol, the famous primatologist, personally met with a parrot. At a meeting, he looked at her and asked: “Do you have a chimpanzees?”
7. Blacki, cat
Although no scientific research from Blacki has been conducted, and the community of its admirers on the Internet is not too much, it can nevertheless be called one of the most important speaking animals in the world. He knew how to say "I love you" and "I want to mom." In the late 1970s, Blacki spoke for money on local television and radio programs.
When the audience was tired of the show, the owners decided to make a street performance in Nashville with the participation of a cat, but they were notified that such an activity needed to get a license, and this is not so simple. It came to court that, you must agree, funny: the question of the right of a cat to freedom against the right of a person’s right to benefit from this.
8. Mishka, Husky
As you know, the majority of Siberian Husky “speak”, whining and howling, not barking, but there is no reason to think that they are really able to maintain a conversation. Unless, of course, we are not talking about Mishka. Bear, talking Husky, is a new Internet sensation. In her constantly growing dictionary there are such phrases as “Hello”, “I love you” and “I am hungry”. What do you think, if your dog could speak, then maybe I would tell you much more?
9. Einstein, African gray parrot
Somehow we have not talked about parrots for a long time, do not find? So, the 18-year-old parrot Einstein, the permanent inhabitant of the Zoo Knoxville in Tennessee, knows about 200 words, 70 gestures and knows how to distinguish people from each other. When he was asked what he would do if he receives arachis, the parrot shook his head and shouted: “My God, my God!”, Again and again, entering the excitement.
African gray parrot Einstein, similar to the already familiar to us by Alex and Nkisi, proves that gray parrots, perhaps, are one of the smartest birds on the planet.
10. Lucy, chimpanzees
Lucy Temerlin rarely read Jin and joyfully poured him into her tea whenever the mentor visited her. It was completely normal because Lucy was a pearl among the chimpanzees. Her story is described in Temerlin’s novel “To grow a person: a shimpanza daughter in a psychotherapist’s family.”
Temerlin and his wife brought up Lucy as a man, taught her to eat with the help of cutlery, behave at the dining table and even dress. To help her communicate, the primatologist Roger Fawts taught her elementary gestures. Ultimately, Lucy learned 140 words that she regularly used.
Although she never spoke out loud, Lucy was one of the first monkeys to learned to use the language of gestures to communicate fartherly. And she was one of the few speaking animals who seemed to understand what they were saying.
