The head of Komi announced a three -day mourning in the region due to the death of miners in Vorkuta and called for the cancellation of entertainment events, including the “winter -ybititsa”, which, according to the deadlines that did not fall under these three days. In local news agencies, anonymous users have already left negative statements on this subject. In this regard, I remembered two cases from my expeditionary activity, when tragedy and holiday were combined.
The first case was associated with the combination of the birthday of the young man and the day of the funeral of his grandfather. Relatives decided to do as much as possible to do in this difficult situation. An elderly man was buried at lunch, and in the evening they congratulated the young man on a small anniversary. As they explained to me: life continues.
The second case occurred in the middle of the 20th century in one of the villages. On the wedding day, when the bride according to the old custom was washed in the bathhouse and was already equipped in the house by the groom's arrival, my grandmother went to the bathhouse and suddenly died. Relatives decided not to cancel the wedding. All day, while the wedding continued, the deceased lay in the bathhouse and only after the wedding began to prepare for the funeral.
In general, in folk culture, this way was prioritized in difficult life situations.
