Today in Vyatskie Polyany a monument to the legendary “weapon of victory” was unveiled - the PPSh, Shpagin’s submachine gun. The appearance of this weapon, I am sure, is familiar to absolutely everyone. Everyone has seen him in films, in photographs, etc. The PPSh was the main submachine gun of Soviet soldiers during the Great Patriotic War. In total, about 6 million units of PPSh were produced, and its largest manufacturer was the Vyatskopolyansk plant "Molot".
Last year, during a trip to Vyatskie Polyany in the house-museum of Georgy Semenovich Shpagin, PPSh gunsmith designer, chief designer of the Molot plant, we decided to erect a monument to the “weapon of victory” . And today we opened this monument.
I would like to thank everyone who made this possible: the Kirov branch of the Russian Military Historical Society, local authorities, gunsmith entrepreneur Ravil Nurgaleev. This is a monument to weapons and to everyone who, using them, achieved Victory.
Until May 9, in Kirov we will also open a monument to the “Victory Standard Bearer” Grigory Bulatov and busts of the Marshals of the Soviet Union.
