Sergey Kapitsa died ... ..
Today we have lost not only an outstanding scientist and public figure, but also the main intermediary between the fundamental science and citizens of the country. In these tragic days there are a lot, and many will be said about him. Who was he all for us, what he did.
Today I want to recall one small but very indicative episode from his life. I was lucky to take part twice in the meetings of the “Nikitsky Club” - a discussion platform for scientists and entrepreneurs on a variety of problems, where Sergei Petrovich chaired.
At one meeting dedicated to the perception of democratic freedoms by the Russian society, Sergei Petrovich touched on the topic of television and his influence on people's minds. Kapitsa quoted his best Orthodox priest, who said that “the TV is a speaking icon in the hands of the devil”, adding from himself that he never heard a more capacious and objective definition of this phenomenon.
It was a little strange then to hear this from perhaps the most “television” scientist in the world. But as he was right then .... The latest events in Russia and the Komi Republic can be said that television has long been no longer even talking, but a barking devilish icon.
Forgive us all of us Sergey Petrovich.
