| The world's first mobile phone voting took place in Russia In the SMS voting for the presidential election held in Russia on Sunday, as expected, Vladimir Putin won “in the first round.” But the sensation was that the second place by a large margin was taken by a member of the political council of the Union of Right Forces, Irina Khakamada.
More than 62 thousand mobile phone owners took part in the unique “primaries” organized by INFON with the assistance of the Russian Foundation for Free Elections. Vladimir Putin took first place with 66.3% of the votes, second place went to Irina Khakamada with 19.23% of the votes. The remaining seats were divided accordingly: the candidate “against all” - 7.21% of the votes, Sergei Glazyev - 3.58% of the votes, Nikolai Kharitonov - 1.01%, Ivan Rybkin - 0.85%, Oleg Malyshkin - 0.77%, Sergei Mironov - 0.56%.
To participate in the vote on February 29, you had to send an SMS message from your mobile phone indicating the number of the Russian presidential candidate who is preferred. The “numbering” of candidates in the “THOUGHT THE ELECTIONS” campaign corresponded to their order on the actual ballot. The calls came not only from Russia, but also from 16 countries, including Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Norway and Luxembourg. Promotion participants paid only the regular cost of outgoing SMS messages in accordance with the tariffs of mobile operators. The organizers call the official goal of the action “increasing the activity of young people and middle-income groups in elections that are traditionally characterized by low turnout.”
Nevertheless, even the initiators of the “REFLECTION” of the elections themselves are not calling for taking the rather unexpected voting results that put Irina Khakamada in second place any seriously. Daria GUSEVA |
