| The criminal case of two police officers who twice beat a young married couple was transferred to the court of the Sovetsky district of Novosibirsk. One of the accused - a police major, the head of the duty shift of the 12th police station - illegally locked the previously beaten husband and wife in a cell for administrative violators for the night. The second is a senior operational worker, about whom the victims came to the ill-fated department to complain. In May last year, a couple celebrating their honeymoon came to a nightclub in the ObGES microdistrict (part of the Sovetsky district adjacent to the Ob reservoir). There, the head of a young family had an argument with a tipsy group. A fight ensued, in which the wife also suffered. The next day, the victims came to the local police station to write a statement, and indicated the names of several offenders. One of the attackers turned out to be a senior lieutenant, an intelligence officer of the same department. The major asked the victims to “wait” and locked them in the cell, while he called the operative and reported the signal. He and his friends arrived at the station, took the victims into his office and continued the beating. According to the victims, the husband was beaten by the men, and the wife was beaten by the female staff of the department. After this, the couple was locked in a cell for administrative violations, and in the morning they were released, having previously taken a promissory note - allegedly the young couple owed the policeman and his friends a large sum of money. The young people decided to seek the truth at the district prosecutor's office. As Maxim Mozolyak, an investigator at the Sovetsky District Prosecutor's Office, said, after an investigation, a criminal case was opened under articles of “exceeding official authority with the use of violence” and “hooliganism committed by a group of persons.” Now the senior lieutenant faces up to ten years in prison. The case of the major who locked the victims in a cell has been separated into separate proceedings. He faces up to four years in prison. Dmitry VINOGRADOV, Novosibirsk
Investigator condemned for generosity during interrogation
In the city of Serov (Sverdlovsk region), a sentence was passed on the senior investigator of the city police department, Alexander Pershin, who was accused of the death of the defendant Eduard Smolyaninov. According to the investigation, three years ago, during interrogation, Alexander Pershin and two of his colleagues offered drug addict Smolyaninov, during withdrawal, a dose of the drug in exchange for testimony. However, the dose turned out to be too large, and the defendant died from an overdose right in the building of the police department. Pershin’s colleagues were detained almost immediately after the scandal was made public, and the senior investigator, who was considered the main person involved in the criminal case, went on the run and was put on the federal wanted list. Last November, when his colleagues were sentenced to two and three years in prison, he voluntarily surrendered to the city prosecutor's office. Despite the presence of a video recording of the interrogation, where investigators can be seen beating Smolyaninov, the Serov City Court found the senior investigator guilty only of exceeding his authority and of forcing Smolyaninov to take a dose of a narcotic substance. For this, Pershin was sentenced to six years and one month in prison to be served in a maximum security colony. He has already been dismissed from the force, but the ex-policeman’s lawyers intend to appeal the court’s decision, just like Eduard Smolyaninov’s mother, who considers the term given to Alexander Pershin to be too short.
