| The United Russia party is in great demand. The Ministry of Justice of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, according to Interfax, received two packages of documents for registration of the republican branch of United Russia.
Party branches were created literally in two days. First, on March 23, members of the republican branches of the Unity party, the Fatherland movement and the All Russia organization gathered in Cherkessk. After consulting, they came to the conclusion that it was useless to maintain political organizations in the North Caucasus that no longer exist in Moscow, and decided to quickly dissolve them, creating in their place a republican branch of the United Russia party. The President of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, General Vladimir Semenov, was elected chairman of the new party.
However, as it turned out, not all members of the dissolved parties and movements were present at the meeting on March 23. Moreover, the representative of the General Council of United Russia, Konstantin Kosachev, did not have time to arrive in Cherkessk on this day. Therefore, those who did not have time for the first meeting met separately on March 24 and made exactly the same decisions. With only one difference - State Duma deputy from the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Magomet Tekeev was elected chairman of the political council of the new republican branch of United Russia.
Now a dispute has broken out between the two branches of the party over which of them is more legitimate. In the Moscow office of United Russia, the correspondent of the newspaper Vremya Novostei could not explain the situation in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, since “it is now being studied, and what decision will be made” will apparently become known only at the end of the week, after a meeting of the political council.
