| A paradoxical situation has developed in Belarus on the eve of the parliamentary elections. The opposition managed to agree on the division of districts, and the party in power in most of them is represented by two candidates. As a rule, one delegated by the local vertical, the second represents the central government. For example, the current member of the Belarusian parliament Nikolai Karpievich and the head of the pro-presidential Youth Union Vsevolod Yanchevsky will compete with the wife of disgraced ex-Prime Minister Mikhail Chigir. They say that in the party in power there are actually two parties at once. The head of the presidential administration, Mikhail Myasnikovich, was unable to come to an agreement with his deputy, the main Belarusian ideologist Vladimir Zametalin, and each of them put forward their own list of candidates.
