The Office of the Prosecutor General in the Far Eastern Federal District has completed an investigation into one of the most brutal crimes committed in the region in recent years. In February 2001, in Komsomolsk-on-Amur (Khabarovsk Territory), attackers threw Molotov cocktails at the Charodeyka cafe late at night. At that time, the establishment was crowded; teenagers were celebrating the birthday of a peer. As a result of the terrorist attack, which, as it turned out, was carried out during a criminal showdown, eight people were killed, and more than 20 young people aged 16 and over received severe burns. Some of the victims are still undergoing treatment. Investigators spent more than a year looking into the circumstances of the case. As lawyers emphasized, it was most difficult to collect evidence in Komsomolsk, considered the criminal capital of the Far East. Nevertheless, it was possible to find customers and executors of the case. True, during the investigation, one of the perpetrators of the crime was killed by his accomplices - it turned out that during an attack on a cafe he unsuccessfully threw a Molotov cocktail and received severe burns. Another suspect in organizing the tragedy, crime boss Evgeny Vasin, nicknamed Dzhem, who at that time led the Obshchak mafia group, was arrested, but did not live to see the trial, unexpectedly dying in a pre-trial detention center. As a result, five Obshchak militants were charged with murder, arson and drug use. The case will be heard in the Khabarovsk Regional Court.
